On the road to the Grande-Dixence dam, just over 3km after Hérémence, you will pass through this small village of around 100 inhabitants, which is said to be the oldest in the Val d'Hérens and has remained very authentic. Take the time to stop and explore it!

Until construction began on the first Dixence dam in 1929, there were no roads connecting the hamlets of Val d'Hérémence to the Rhône Plain, and Mâche remained very isolated, perched at an altitude of 1,310 metres.

Nowadays, the road provides easy access, but the village remains little known. You can pass through it in a flash on the Grande-Dixence road, without stopping and without realising the richness of its architectural heritage.

Mâche is a hamlet classified as being of national importance for its exceptional built heritage, a harmonious ensemble of traditional chalets, barns and mountain huts.

You can visit it at your leisure, following an educational trail (brochure available at the tourist office), strolling around with your nose in the air as the mood takes you, or letting yourself be inspired by the 41 panoramic views on our virtual tour.
