Grande-Dixence
Lake of the Dix

With an area of 3.65 km², a maximum depth of 227 m and a length of 5.3 km, representing 400 million m³ of water, Lac des Dix is not fed exclusively by the Dixence, which is more of a torrent than a river. To fill such a large volume, 100 kilometres of tunnels bring water from 35 glaciers via numerous collectors, some located as far away as the Matterhorn above Zermatt.
