Piraeus - Le Pirée

Piraeus is the port of ferries going to all Cyclades islands except the closest to Attica, Kea (departure from Lavrio) and Andros (departure from Rafina). It's a big hideous city that guides and tourists don't recommend to visit, but it's quite fascinating with its huge port and its sad streets leading to small quiet parks and lively pedestrian areas...

HOW TO GO TO PIRAEUS

From the airport (Eleftherios Venizelos)
Distance: 50 km


Taxi: 50 euros in day time and 65 euros from midnight till 5 a.m. (indicative price), journey time 40 to 60 minutes.

X96 bus: 5 euros. Every 20 minutes in day time, every 40 minutes from 10:30 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. Journey time about 90 minutes (and seats are not comfy).

Train + metro: 8 euros. Every 30 minutes from 6:33 a.m. till 10:33 p.m. Journey time about 80 minutes.

Suburban railway network, also used by metro M3 (change at Monastiraki to take M1 to Piraeus). You can also take the suburban train to Neratziotissa then change for M1 going directly to Piraeus. More comfy than the X96 bus!

Train (direct line): a direct train line connects the airport to Piraeus in 45 minutes since June 2017.

From Syntagma (center of Athens)
Distance: 10 km


Taxi: 20 euros in day time and 25 euros from midnight till 5 a.m. (indicative price), journey time about 30 minutes.

Bus 040: 1.40 euros. Get off at Kotzia Square, then a 10-min walk to the port.

Metro: 1.20 euros. M3 line to Monastiraki (1 stop), then M1 to Piraeus (terminal station).

BEWARE: Piraeus is a very big port! The gate of your ferry is indicated on your ticket, check the way before departure.
